Many school districts have started releasing their plans for the 2020-2021 school year, which include various formats for learning and plans to prevent the spread of COVID amongst students. To make your life easier, we have compiled a list of items to review with your child(ren) before they head back. For those families in the OKC metro, we have included the plans that have been released by districts in the area so far, as well as links to the district websites to help you stay up to date as further information is released.
Returning to School Discussion with Your Children:
- Use terms and information that are age-appropriate
- Review proper handwashing technique and how often to wash
- Remind children to cover their mouth with their arm or shirt when coughing or sneezing
- Tell children to limit hugging and touching friends and classmates
- Have you child(ren) practice wearing a mask before school begins to get used to it
- Plan ahead for lunches and snacks – make sure they are easy to open, healthy, and remind your child not to share food or drink
- Ask your child what he/she is concerned about, excited for, etc. Be a sounding board for you chil(ren)
- Share your own feelings and experiences as appropriate
